Brazil: Highest ever monthly pork export volume
Brazilian pork exports (including fresh and processed) totaled 109,200 tons in March, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA). This figure is 51.5% greater than the shipments registered in the same period last year, when 72,100 tons were exported. In revenue, the sector's sales reached US$ 261.7 million, up 57.6% from March 2020.
Total accumulated pork exports for the year total 253,500 tons, 21.86% more than the volume registered in the first quarter of 2020, when 208,000 tons were shipped. The sales balance for the quarter reached US$594 million, 22.4% higher than in the same period of 2020, with US$485.1 million.
The main destination for pork exports, China, imported 58,700 tons in March (+64.6%), and 132,900 tons in the quarter (+36.5%). In second place, Hong Kong imported 17.5 thousand tons in March (+49.9%) and 37.3 thousand tons in the quarter (-6.2%). In third place, Chile imported 5.1 thousand tons in March (+98.2%) and 15 thousand tons in the quarter (+69.6%). The Brazillian state of Santa Catarina continues to be the largest exporter with 126.7 thousand tons exported in the first quarter, 13.86% more than in the same period in 2020. Next are Rio Grande do Sul, with 68.8 thousand tons (+39.5%); and Paraná, with 34.5 thousand tons (+27.1%).
