Germany: Pig population continues to decline

 

Pig population continues to decline: -2.3% compared with the previous year.

    On the reference date of 3 May 2020, 25.4 million pigs were kept in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the provisional number of pigs was down by 678,800, or 2.6%, compared with the last survey conducted in November 2019. Compared with the relevant number recorded on 3 May 2019, the pig population decreased by 584,000 or 2.3% (Fig. 1).
