Mexico expects a significant increase in pork exports in 2020
The Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service forecasts a 20.5% increase in Mexican pork exports.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development estimated that this year's pork production will reach 1.7 million tons, representing an increase of 4 percent compared to the previous year.
In 2019, the pig census reached 18.6 million head, an increase of 4.5 percent over 2018 and is expected to increase by 3.1 percent to 19.2 million head in 2020.
According to statistics from the Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) pork exports are forecast to reach 212,000 tons, representing a 20.5 percent increase over 2019.
The statistics highlight that by the end of 2019, domestic pork consumption reached record levels, with an increase of 2.3 percent over 2018, and it is predicted that in 2020 consumption will continue with the pace of growth driven by increased production.
The main buyer of Mexican pork was Japan, with a 66.7 percent share, followed by China and the United States, with 16.6 percent and 8.8 percent, respectively; while the main supplier of pork to Mexico, with a share of 83.9 percent, was the United States, followed by Canada, with 15.9 percent.
It is estimated that in 2020 pork imports will increase by 2.5 percent compared to the previous year due to increased consumption, and despite the expected increase in production, exports are expected to return to historical records.
