The Confederation of Mexican Pig Producers (CPM) and the National Pig Producers' Association (Oporpa) will join together to form the Mexican Pig Producer's Association (Opormex). The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, deemed this union historic.
According to Villalobos' statements, among the benefits are the integration of the value chain into a single organization; the possibility of promoting Mexican pig farming nationally and internationally; developing production activity to be more efficient and more sustainable; applying an integral improvement model that considers training and welfare of producers and animal health and certification; and technological innovation in all steps of production, from genetics to consumption.
Heriberto Hernández Cárdenas, President of the Opormex Board of Directors, pointed out that the creation of the new body represents the strengthening of a great industry and the basis of its decisive growth.
It is a producer-led group, he explained, with transparency and an entrepreneurial vision, aimed at achieving profitability for small, medium, and large scale pig farming to promote the development of the poorest communities in the country where this activity is practiced.
Marilú Ábrego, Secretary of the Opormex Board of Directors, said that they will propose public policies on issues such as health and safety, as well as for regulations and legal framework, in order to provide certainty to the production activity, all this, she added, without neglecting the protection of the environment and natural resources.
She assured that Oparmex intends to work with related international organizations, such as the Ibero-American Pork Organization (OIPORC) and the Latin American Council on Animal Protein, generating a constructive dialogue, in order to promote the alliances needed by producers to strengthen the sector.
